Frequently Asked Questions
What is involved in a Brain Tune session?
Brain Tune sessions include the use of both IASIS Micro Current Neurofeedback (MCN) and Brain Gauge.
What is Micro Current Neurofeedback (MCN)?
MCN is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that uses low-level electrical impulses to help the brain “reset” itself. It also promotes better regulation of the nervous system, which can improve mood, focus, sleep, and more.
How is MCN different from traditional neurofeedback?
Traditional neurofeedback requires active participation, such as watching a screen or playing a game. MCN is passive: you simply relax while sensors deliver micro currents that support brain self-correction.
What is Brain Gauge?
Brain Gauge is a cognitive assessment tool that measures brain health using the sense of touch in your fingertips. It was developed to help assess military personnel exposed to blasts. Brain Gauge helps us track how your brain is responding to MCN over time. It gives us a clear, objective way to measure improvements. Brain Gauge also provides exercises to help improve cognitive performance.
What conditions can MCN help with?
MCN is commonly used to support those dealing with ADD/ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, traumatic brain injury (TBI), sleep issues, and more. It’s also helpful for general cognitive performance.
What does it feel like to use IASIS MCN and Brain Gauge?
IASIS MCN is painless. Some people report a light sense of calm, while others may feel sleepy. Some clients even take a nap.
Brain Gauge uses light taps and vibrations on your fingertips. There is no discomfort involved.
Are these technologies safe?
Yes! IASIS MCN uses extremely low-intensity signals — 1/100th of what is in a AA battery. It’s safe for adults, teens, and children.
When you place your index and middle finger on the Brain Gauge device, you will only feel mild taps and vibrations.
Do I need to prepare anything before my first session?
We ask that you fill out the intake form at least 24 hours before your appointment. It is best to come in without heavy makeup.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your individual needs. Many people begin noticing changes within 1–3 sessions, with more lasting results after 12–20. We’ll work with you to build a personalized plan.
Are the results permanent?
MCN helps the brain move into better balance, and many clients report long-term benefits. Occasional MCN “tune-up” sessions may help maintain results, especially during stressful times.
Brain Gauge can be used on an ongoing basis, to help your brain continue to work better. We can set you up with a Brain Gauge Home device for your on-going brain fitness routines for maximum long-term benefit.
Do I have to stop taking medications?
No. MCN is compatible with most medications and other therapies. Some individuals may be able to reduce their medication based on their results. You should always consult your prescribing physician before making any changes.
Is this covered by insurance?
Our sessions are not currently covered by insurance, but some flex spending plans do reimburse for neurofeedback services. We offer package pricing and payment plans to help make treatment more affordable.
